Parent without parenting skills.

That’s me. Totally me!

boy, kid, son, kids, baby, childhood, small child, nature, photographing children, person, child photographer, friends, a son, joy, small, childishly, stroll, beautiful, summer, smile, warmth of communication

What do I mean?
Well, I can not play with kids. Feels weird. Awkward. To get down to that level. To a kids mentality. Engaging in a kid from 1year of age to perhaps  the teens. I’m not interested.
The play. The imagining. So awkward doing it. Embarrassing. It so not me.
”Oh, but you have an obligation as a father, to play with your kid”.
Make the kid feel the presens of his daddy.
The love. The joy. Shouldn’t that come, naturally?
It’s completely boring. Meaningless. I can’t relate. I don’t have the natural ability to interact with a kids mentality. It feels weird to me.
From ”dada” language to making a sand cake or making sand castles. No. It’s like telling a joke without having the finish line. It’s pointless.

Skip the in between.
But make pregnant and follow that process. That was interesting in our cases! Yeah, what a surprise, right?
Haha yeah, but even the first period having the newborn at home. All ok. Or the first signs of communication could be interesting.
BUT! When it comes to the playing. The engagement. Oh no…
And when the kid is old enough to understand jokes and grown ups talking, I’m back again. It’s everything in between that’s so awkward to me. Of course I love my own kids. That’s not an issue. It’s the communication engagement that doesn’t work out in my head.

A heartwarming moment of same-sex parents lovingly changing their baby's diaper at home.

The diaper change.
The diaper change is also a big thing for most.. men? To do it at home, with your own stuff. A lot of paper towels and access to a water tap. Sure. Not that big of a problem.
But don’t ask me to do it at some others place, away from the ordinary gear at home.

At friends or at grandmas.. (oh, dear God)
”Oh a diaper change. Here, take these…”
Two paper towels and thats it. Are you kidding me? Not even God himself would make it with that poor equipment.
Well, perhaps mom or grandma herself can do it. Never bothered to ask how?
No, no diaper change outside home. Or at least not without MY own gear.

Me, my kid = my gear. Thank you very much.

Yeah sure, you should have your own stuff along at any case. But make sure mom hasn’t packed it. Fill up with more than the two paper towels mom brought.

Not a real man!
But make one thing very clear here. Not changing the diaper on your own kid at ANY circumstances will make you look like the man bastard of the year. You’ll be seen as so ego! Worthless!
Not man enough! And yada yada and so on.. blabla.

I wonder if it takes that you actually scrape the shit out of your kids back with your own hands to be a real man. Does it?
So, take real shit or verbal shit? I’ll stick to the verbal one, thank you very much.
But then you’re no real man?!
Well, at least I’ll have my hands clean.
I’ll settle with that!

I got no problem with the diaper work as long as I choose the gear. The other bullshit is more of a man trap.

Am I the only one feeling that parenting with small kids is so much of a no-game? Do you have a story of your own to this topic? Let me know. Put a comment in my blog. Keep it firm and relevant.

Hope you enjoyed the reading!

See you soon!
